TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS:
You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements. The workshop will begin each day at 8:00 am on Oct. 10 and 11, and end at approximately 5:00 pm. It is being held at the U College of Education, 1721 Campus Center Dr., SLC, UT 84112.

THE GUEST HOUSE (preferred hotel accommodation):

  • The Guest House at University of Utah campus (http://www.universityguesthouse.com/) is located within walking distance from the Workshop (1721 Campus Center Dr., SLC). Very limited business can be found around the Guest House, but the SLC downtown area can be reached by light rail (15 minute ride).
  • A block of rooms is being held at the University of Utah Guest House starting at $130 per night. Please call (801) 587-1117, for room reservations and ask for the ReACt Workshop group rate.
  • You are not required to stay at the Guest House, however doing so will cut down on your out-of-pocket expenses. You may also decide to share a room in order to cut down on costs. Scroll down the page for the additional list of hotels typically used for campus business.
  • The Guest House is conveniently located on campus and a 15 minute walk from the workshop location.

ORIENTATION:
The city is located in the Great Salt Lake Valley, with the Wasatch Mountains on the east and the Great Salt Lake on the North as the more prominent features. Mostly laid out on a square grid, major streets run north south and east west, with the grid’s origin at Temple Square.

TRANSPORTATION:
Salt Lake City Airport is located 7.5 miles from downtown Salt Lake City and 18 miles from the University of Utah campus. Taxi fares from the airport to downtown SLC and University of Utah are around $24 and $35 respectively.

Light Rail (TRAX) connects the SLC Airport with SLC downtown area and the University of Utah campus. One-way fare is $2.50.

Directions From SLC Airport to the University of Utah Guest House: Walk from baggage area in the airport to “Airport” TRAX station located outside the south end of Terminal 1. Pay fare using cash or credit card in ticket machine. Ride on the Green line to station “Courthouse,” and on the same station take the Red line direction “U. Medical Center.” Get off at “Fort Douglas” station, walk over the bridge and follow directions to the Guest House.

Buses connect SLC downtown area and the University of Utah campus. Buses used only in the immediate downtown area (4 block circle) are free in the “Free Fare Zone.”

For routes and schedules visit the RideUTA web page (http://www.rideuta.com/mc/?page=UTA-Home-TRAX) If you are planning to take TRAX to campus for the workshop, take the red-line and get off at the University South Campus Station. From there it’s about a 15 minute walk to the workshop.

The Computational Mechanics and Sciences Workshop will be on the campus of the University of Utah at the College of Education, 1721 Campus Center Dr., SLC.
